Welcome to the VPT Lab

Dr. Ann-Margaret Esnard, Director
The Visual Planning Technology Lab (previously called the GIS Lab) was established in 1987. A part of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, this state-of-the-art facility continues to be a hub for basic and applied planning and policy research, GIS curriculum development, graduate student training, and development and delivery of professional development courses for busy professionals.
We continue to embrace our strengths and expertise in disaster planning, natural hazard mitigation and land use planning. We are actively engaged in collaborating with multi-disciplinary research teams on projects and proposals related to hurricane and flood vulnerability assessments, disaster management, hazard mitigation, and three dimensional modeling in Florida and beyond. A 3 year National Science Foundation (NSF) study that draws faculty from the VPT Lab, Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Public Administration is just one example.
Our staff and professional development faculty are committed to our mission to advance research and knowledge on the application of geospatial and visual planning technologies for public and private sector planning and decision-making. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with planners, public officials, non-profit agencies and multi-disciplinary research teams in Florida and beyond.
Thanks for visiting our web-site and we look forward to hearing from you.
