Research Overview

NSF Meeting

Since its inception in 1987, the VPT Lab has been actively involved in basic GIS analysis, and applied planning and policy research funded by:

  • National Science Foundation
  • Federal, state, and local governments
  • Research centers
  • Non-profit agencies

We work on projects that are both large and small in scope and focus on a range of geographic areas, including:

  • Downtowns (e.g. 3-dimensional computer modeling)
  • Communities (e.g. Districting and Redistricting)
  • Regions  (e.g. Vulnerability and Resiliency Indicators for Coastal counties)
  • Multiple States (e.g. Potential Magnitude of household displacement from hurricanes)

We have also contributed to community planning and (re)development initiatives via:
design of websites for agencies and community based organizations, and survey research aimed at understanding barriers to effective use of GIS by community based organizartions.
